OPENING TO THE PUBLIC IN JUNE 2027
Richard (Rick) and Barbara Dale have long had a passion for good wine sourced from great grapes. That passion grew into the creation of a vineyard and winery on a picturesque track of land in rural Richmond Rhode Island. The Dale property sits in the Historic Beaver River Valley – a valley with a rich agricultural heritage along the banks of the designated Wild and Scenic Beaver River. When they open to the public in 2027, Rick and Barbara will finally realize their dream of offering regional wine customers a quality wine experience involving unique wine taste and sensations not available elsewhere in southern New England. Their goal is to provide this experience in a beautiful rural setting adjacent to the estate's vineyards. This unique location will provide the discerning wine customer with the ability to experience fine wines while simultaneously enjoying the vibrant habitat of the Beaver River Valley.
Since 2016, our winery has focused its efforts on fermenting heirloom French Hybrid Grapes primarily sourced from the Hudson River Valley and Finger Lakes regions of New York State. Concurrent with that effort has been establishment of two vineyards on the Dale property cultivating those same heirloom grape varietals locally in Rhode Island – with a goal of maximizing estate grown and harvested heirloom grapes in the offerings of the BRW. To the best of our knowledge, the Winery is unique in the Connecticut/Rhode Island/Massachusetts region for its planned offering of wines based primarily on heirloom varietals blended in harmony with more traditional Vinifera grapes (such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot grapes sourced from California and Virginia).
The winery's expanded offerings will include hosting winery hospitality events for its visitors, patrons, wine club members. These types of events include winemaking and wine pairing master classes, live performances (musicians, comedians, or theatrical professionals), weddings, engagement parties and/or corporate team building events (such as grape stomping, scavenger hunts and blind tastings). Be prepared to enjoy yourself, delight your wine palate, and make memories at the Beaver River Winery!
Planned BRW offerings at this time include the following wines:
1) The DeCarlo – a blend of Baco Noir and Cabernet Franc
2) The River Blend – a blend of Baco Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon
3) The Janina – a blend of Baco Noir, Chambourcin, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot
4) The Beaver Bordeaux - Baco Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot
5) The Lauren - a blend of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot
6) Le Baco Noir - a blend of estate grown and Finger Lakes Region sourced Baco Noir
7) The Super Tuscan – A natural wine blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Merlot
8) The Paula Rose – Chardonnay
9) The Kaylee Rose – Sauvignon Blanc
10) Cayuga White
11) Moscato

Welcome to Richmond & the Beaver River
A little history, a little nature, and a lot to explore
Beaver River Winery is located on Beaver River Road in Richmond, Rhode Island, a quiet corner of Washington County surrounded by woods, farms, vineyards, open fields, and the winding waters of the Beaver River. The river flows along the back of our property and is an important part of what makes this place special—and, of course, it is the inspiration for the name Beaver River Winery.
Richmond has a character all its own. Incorporated in 1747, the town has retained much of its rural New England character, with historic homes, stone walls, winding country roads, working farms, and extensive areas of protected woodland and open space. Today, Richmond offers visitors a chance to slow down and enjoy a different side of Rhode Island—one that’s peaceful and rural, yet just a short drive from the beaches and attractions of South County.
The Beaver River
The Beaver River is more than just a scenic backdrop to our vineyard. It is part of the landscape and history of Richmond, flowing through forests, fields and wetlands and providing habitat for an abundance of wildlife. The river and surrounding watershed offer opportunities for fishing, kayaking, canoeing, wildlife watching, photography and simply enjoying the quiet beauty of the countryside. Richmond itself has more than 120 miles of rivers and streams.
For us, having the Beaver River at the back of the property makes the connection especially meaningful. Our vineyard, our winery and the river are all part of the same landscape. We hope that when you visit Beaver River Winery, you’ll take a moment to look beyond the tasting room and appreciate the place that inspired our name.
Explore Richmond
There is plenty to see and do beyond the winery. Adjacent to the winery is Beaver River Park. The Town park offers walking trails through open grasslands and access to the river. The park is part of Richmond’s growing network of public open spaces and is a wonderful place for a leisurely walk, nature photography or simply enjoying the outdoors.
Nearby, The Nature Conservancy’s Beaver River Preserve protects 266 acres along the river. Its two trail systems lead through forests, old pastures and wetlands, with opportunities to see beaver habitat, birds and other native wildlife. The preserve is open to the public year-round during daylight hours.
Richmond also provides easy access to the North-South Trail, the Carolina Management Area, local golf courses, historic villages and the annual Washington County Fair. And because we’re in the heart of South County, the beaches, restaurants, shops and other attractions of southern Rhode Island are only a short drive away.
